Rimaskóli chess team to compete in Nordic Elementary School Chess Championship in Helsinki

The chess team from Rimaskóli, Iceland's 2025 elementary school champions, is traveling to Helsinki, Finland, to compete in the Nordic Elementary School Chess Championship. There, the Rimaskóli students will compete against school champions from Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. This talented chess team includes Tristan Fannar Jónsson, Emilía Embla B. Berglindardóttir, Sigrún Tara Sigurðardóttir, Emilía Sigurðardóttir, and Tara Líf Ingadóttir. Notably, the chess team includes four girls, which is unique for this type of competition. The students' coach is Björn Ívar Karlsson, the school's chess instructor, and the team manager is Helgi Árnason, who oversees the school's chess program.

The group flies to Finland on Friday morning, Sept. 12. The championship will take place Sept. 12-14 in Helsinki, Finland's capital.
